HEARTSAVER CPR/AED/FIRST AID TRAINING

We offer CPR/AED/First Aid through the American Heart Association. It teaches students critical skills needed to respond to and manage a first aid, choking or sudden cardiac arrest emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services (EMS) arrives. Students learn skills such as how to treat bleeding, sprains, broken bones, shock and other first aid emergencies. This course also teaches adult CPR and AED use.

Who is this class for?
This course is intended for anyone with limited or no medical training that needs a completion card in CPR, AED and First Aid to meet job, regulatory or other requirements.

BASIC LIFE SUPPORT (BLS)

This Healthcare Provider (HCP) basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) course, accredited by the American Heart Association, provides the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for healthcare providers to perform CPR, to use an automated external defibrillator (AED) and bag mask, and relieve choking in the adult and pediatric victim.

After completing this course, participants will be able to perform each of the following skills:

  1. Recall the basic steps of CPR for adults, children, and infants.
  2. Show the basic steps of CPR for adults, children, and infants.
  3. Give breaths with a bag mask.
  4. Perform rescue breathing.
  5. Explain the importance of early defibrillation.
  6. List the steps common to the operation of all AEDs.
  7. Demonstrate the proper placement of the AED electrode pads.
  8. Show how to relieve choking in the responsive and unresponsive victim.

ADVANCED CARDIAC LIFE SUPPORT (ACLS) INITIAL COURSE

This ACLS provider course is designed for health care providers who either direct or participate in resuscitation of patients from cardiac. We are accredited by the American Heart Association, and this class is for the first-time certification or renewal post cert-expiration. This course you will enhance your skills in treating arrest and peri-arrest patients through active participation in a series of simulated cardiopulmonary cases.

  1. After completing this course, participants will be able to perform each of the following skills:
  2. Recall the basic steps of CPR for adults.
  3. Show the basic steps of CPR for adults.
  4. Give breaths with a bag mask.
  5. Perform rescue breathing.
  6. Explain the importance of early defibrillation.
  7. List the steps common to the operation of all external defibrillators.
  8. Demonstrate the proper placement of the defibrillator pads.
  9. Recognize and initiate early management of peri-arrest conditions that may result in cardiac arrest or complicate resuscitation outcome.
  10. Manage cardiac arrest until return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC), termination of resuscitation, or transfer of care.
  11. Identify and treat ischemic chest pain and expedite the care of patients with acute coronary syndromes.
  12. Recognize other life-threatening clinical situations, such as stroke, and provide effective initial care and transfer to reduce disability and death.
  13. Demonstrate effective communication as a member or leader of a resuscitation team and recognize the impact of team dynamics on overall team performance.

Eligibility Prerequisites

  • The American Heart Association developed the ACLS Course for currently active healthcare providers (such as medical, nursing, EMT, or allied health personnel) whose daily occupation or scholastic activities require proficiency in the knowledge and skills of ACLS.
  • Must be an active healthcare provider whose training and scope of practice requires a knowledge base that includes the foundations of ACLS knowledge and skills.
  • Must have a grasp of basic ECG interpretation.
  • Must possess knowledge of pharmacological concepts and competent administration of drugs used during ACLS.

Application Requirements

  • Pick up or receive by mail the ACLS for Health Care Providers textbook and read prior to class.
  • Complete the online ACLS pretest prior to attending class. For non-Baptist Health employees, the online pretest website location is available on the first page of textbook.

ADVANCED CARDIAC LIFE SUPPORT (ACLS) RENEWAL COURSE

This ACLS provider course is designed for health care providers who either direct or participate in resuscitation of patients from cardiac. We are accredited by the American Heart Association, and this class is for the first-time certification or renewal post cert-expiration. This course you will enhance your skills in treating arrest and peri-arrest patients through active participation in a series of simulated cardiopulmonary cases.

After completing this course, participants will be able to perform each of the following skills:

  • Recognize and initiate early management of peri-arrest conditions that may result in cardiac arrest or complicate resuscitation outcome.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in providing BLS care, including prioritizing chest compressions and integrating automatic external defibrillator (AED) use.
  • Manage cardiac arrest until return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC), termination of resuscitation, or transfer of care.
  • Identify and treat ischemic chest pain and expedite the care of patients with acute coronary syndromes.
  • Recognize other life-threatening clinical situations, such as stroke, and provide effective initial care and transfer to reduce disability and death.
  • Demonstrate effective communication as a member or leader of a resuscitation team and recognize the impact of team dynamics on overall team performance.

PEDIATRIC ADVANCED LIFE SUPPORT (PALS) INITIAL COURSE

This course is designed for healthcare providers who participate in the resuscitation of a child. Accredited by the American Heart Association, this PALS provider course aims to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved outcome. You will, in this course, enhance your skills in treating arrest and peri-arrest pediatric patients though active participation in a series of simulated cardiopulmonary cases.

After completing this course, participants will be able to perform each of the following skills:

  1. Recall the basic steps of CPR for children, and infants.
  2. Show the basic steps of CPR for children, and infants.
  3. Give breaths with a bag mask.
  4. Perform rescue breathing.
  5. Explain the importance of early defibrillation.
  6. List the steps common to the operation of all external defibrillators.
  7. Demonstrate the proper placement of the defibrillator pads.
